And Away We Go! by Migy, short for Miguel Ornia-Blanco, is a hot air balloon cumulative tale. Mr. Fox wants to fly to the moon in his new hot air balloon. As he takes off, one friend after another keeps asking to go with him or suggesting they need to bring something along until the balloon just won't take anymore. Going to moon must be at night, so this has a lovely black backdrop of the city most of the time. There's the repeated phrase "And away we go!" which gives the story the added appeal of asking the audience to chime in and help with the story.
The vibrant, bold illustrations are created from a mix of ink and paint. At times some appear to be prints. This title is his U. S. debut and I look forward to more of his work. I love it, it has a mixture of retro, but fresh feel to it. I'll use this with PreK and Kindergarten children.
