Born in the Wild: Baby Mammals and Their Parents by Lita Judge is extraordinary. An informational text with beautiful watercolor art, this title will blow you away with it's bits of info and awe inspiring pictures.
Beginning with "A baby is born" followed by several other needs like protection, to move, to be caressed and groomed and so on, Lita describes how mammal parents take care of their young.
There is more information on each animal, a glossary, sources, and websites in the back of the book.
The art was done with pencil and watercolors. I love the exquisite details with the pencil drawings. The lion is coming close to rival Mr. Pinkney's and that is saying a lot.
I'll use this title with preschool to 3rd grade students. It will be a great book to use to introduce animal information, to use with another picture book to compare fiction and nonfiction, and to use with more information as well for a report.
