Tiny Creatures: The World of Microbes by Nicola Davies, illustrated by Emily Sutton is a Science teacher's delight. This book describes what microbes are and what they do. It explains the process of splitting exceptionally well and shows many examples of microbes.
The illustrations were done in watercolors and although the text does its job, the art takes it one step further. The pictures are clear and concise and brighten up the words tremendously.
I'll use this book with Kindergarten to 5th grade students. Using a picture book to explain a scientific term is always a good start, whether for young or older students. When it comes to why you should wash your hands, this title will do the trick to encourage better hand-washing to explaining diseases.
