Oh Dear, Geoffrey! by Gemma O'Neill is about a gangly giraffe that has a hard time making friends. He's so clumsy that he alienates a lot of the animals, but the monkeys and birds that frequent the tallest trees want to be Geoffrey's friend.
The art is done in mixed media, I think with gouache, collage, and colored pencil, possibly some digital tweaks. I love the collage look of this, that's what caught my eye. At first glance, I thought this might have been done with Citra Solv papers, see art done here. It's a unique way of using a cleaner to make marble-like paper to use in collage painting. She doesn't mention Citra Solv, but it is collage.
Using this title with PreK to 2nd grade in a theme about making friends, being awkward, or getting to know people would work great. It could also stretch to be part of a unit about perseverance or not giving up.
