The River by Alessandro Sanna, translated by Michael Reynolds is a nearly wordless book. I've had a hard time deciding what to say about this book because it is so exquisite. It's in four chapters, the four seasons set on a river. Each chapter opens with a poem and the rest is watercolor painting panels with the passing of time. We see a whole year on the river.
To say that this title is breathtaking is an understatement. For each person that looks at this there will be a different story. I will recommend this book to anyone who loves watercolors; who loves picture book art, and anyone that loves art.
This book will work best in elementary grades second and older.
