Thoughtful Thursday

A Thirst for Home: A Story of Water Across the World by Christine Ieronimo, illustrations by Eric Velasquez is a story about love, water, and adoption.  It's a beautiful story filled with beautiful paintings.  I am adopted and I felt this story strongly.  I wasn't adopted from another country, but there is love, pain, and more love with every adoption, no matter the circumstances.  Eva Alemitu was adopted from Ethiopia.  The story embraces the harsh water conditions found in Ethiopia; embraces, explores, and enumerates the need for clean water there.
The art was created with mixed media and oil on watercolor paper.  The illustrations glow.  There are several scenes that are looking into water, they are exquisite.  There are questions for teachers and parents, here. This title will work best using it with Kindergarten to third grade students.
