The Mermaid's Shoes by Sanne te Loo is a marvelous story about Mia. She hated to leave vacation at the ocean. On her last day she found scuba flippers, but she thinks they are mermaid's shoes. So the story progresses as she tries to find a place to use her mermaid shoes. She also thinks she should be a mermaid. What an enchanting story. I love the watercolor illustrations. This seems to be a first for Sanne te Loo. The book hasn't gotten a lot of great reviews, and it feels a little unfinished to me, but the charming art and imaginative story is a great beginning for the author/artist. I can see using this story with preschool to first graders and asking them what else they think might have happened. And this title clearly shows that Mia has a great gift for imagination. I look forward to more from Sanne te Loo.
