Sugar Hill Harlem's Historic Neighborhood by Carole Boston Weatherford, illustrations by R. Gregory Christie is a rhyming tribute to the 1920s & 1930s area in New York City. This book would be a great intro to the Harlem Renaissance with it's lyrical and upbeat attitude with the colorful but minimal paintings.
There is an author note about each person mentioned in the book. I love the movement of the paintings. You can sway with Miles, dance under the stars with Faith, and walk down the street and meet any number of artists that have put Harlem on the map.
