Friday Favorites

The Greatest Dinosaur Ever by Brenda Z. Guiberson, illustrated by Gennady Spirin is a dinosaur competition.  This exquisitely illustrated, informational book has the reader decide which dinosaur is the greatest of all.  Each two-page spread has the dinosaur saying, "I, (whatever dinosaur) am the best, was the best, because I'm the fastest, biggest, best night vision, and so on to campaign for being the GREATEST.  There is phonetic pronunciation help, which is very useful and children, even very young ones, can pronounce these hard to say words.
The artist used oil paint on paper to create the illustrations for this book.  Combined with the fascinating facts and the enthusiastic battle to be the best will make this a favorite.  Some reviews say this book is for 1st grade and up, but I know some 'obsessed with dinosaurs' preschoolers will LOVE this title.  I'll use it in Preschool Storytime and with primary school-aged children. Here is another amazing collaboration between Guiberson and Spirin.
