Thoughtful Thursday

A Garden for Pig by Kathryn K. Thurmanillustrated by Lindsay Ward
A Garden for Pig by Kathryn K. Thurman, illustrated by Lindsay Ward is deliciously delightful.  Pig is dreaming of eating something other than apples.  He has roasted apples, baked apples, applesauce, and apple pie, but pig is tired of eating apples. But he lives on an apple farm, so pig starts to wander around the farm and he happens upon the garden and.... vegetables.
Pig tastes a squash and now that's all he wants. But Mrs. Pippins, the farmer, isn't happy about pig's excursion into the garden. Out he goes back to his pen.  Read A Garden for Pig to find out how pig was able to have his squash.
The illustrations were created with mixed media which included cut paper, pencil, paint, stamps, and pastel.  They are full of interesting patterns, and textures.
There is an author note about growing your own organic garden.
I will use this book for a Storytime on gardens, pigs, or growing plants.  I think children preschool age to 1st or 2nd grade would enjoy this book.  Find out more about Lindsay Ward here.
