Train by Elisha Cooper follows several trains on their travels. From the watercolor and pencil pictures, we start off in New York and switch trains as it passes through the city, then towns, then countryside until the last train pulls into the station in San Francisco. We begin with a Commuter Train, hop onto a Passenger Train, step onto a Freight Train, skip onto an Overnight Train, and finish with a High-Speed Train.
The art is soft with pastel colors. I like that we get to see the trains in long range view but also get to see what is going on as we see the different kinds of trains. The art shows well the different landscapes that is traveled and the many different kinds of people that work around, on, and for trains, besides seeing the different people that use trains.
This book will be great for any aficionado of trains, whatever the age, but 4-5 year-olds and older children will love to tag along with this book. And their favorite adult will notice and enjoy all the wonderful details.
