Water in the Park: A book about water & the times of the day by Emily Jenkins, illustrated by Stephanie Graegin is an homage to two classic picture books. Alvin Tresselt's 1947 Caldecott Medal-winner White Snow, Bright Snow, illustrated by Roger Duvoisin and Charlotte Zolotow's 1944 The Park Book, illustrated by H. A. Rey.
This book will be great to use this summer during Summer Reading Program, the Science theme fits right in with all the ways to use water in this story. And using before and after summer with preschoolers to second graders with water science goes right with the Common Core Standards.
I enjoyed the art, with its pencil and ink washes very detailed and then they were assembled and colored digitally.
I think this book would also offer the connection to using maps. You see the park and the different parts and people that use the park, a great beginning map book too.
