Wow! I Didn't Know That: Surprising Facts About Animals by Emma Dods, illustrated by Marc Aspinall and copyrighted by Kingfisher Books is a ton of fun facts about different animals.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how the animals are arranged, but the words, short paragraphs, and pictures are very well designed and placed to keep the reader turning the page for more info.
Marc's art has a mid-century look to it. He combines art styles, but his looks always have great texture, shadow, and a little twist. Each 2 page spread is a whole, yet they also beg you to find out what is coming next by placing a part of another animal on the page, or next page. One animal is cut off, but on other pages, you see paws, a tail, or a dotted line indicating that another animal will show up on the next page. You have to check out page 14 & 15 about elephant and Asian palm civet poop, and the rest of the book!
This would be the perfect book to introduce a Second grade and up classroom to facts about animals. After reading this together, have children pick one animal to explore more fully in a research report.
