Throwback Thursdays

The Scarecrow's Hat written and illustrated by Ken Brown is one of my favorite Autumn stories.  Chicken wants Scarecrow's hat, but Scarecrow would rather have a walking stick, and so it starts in this cumulative story.  It reminds me of the old classic "The Old Woman and her Pig."  Chicken decides to find Scarecrow a walking stick which leads her to find a piece of ribbon, then some wool, glasses, and some feathers.  Chicken can give 3 of her own feathers so she has started the swapping.
And why does Chicken want an old hat from a scarecrow?  Well you'll just have to read it to find out!
The illustrations are done in watercolor and portray the characters is a whimsical way.
Ken Brown is married to fellow children's author/illustrator Ruth Brown.
