Dusk by Uri Shulevitz is a dreamy story about the end of the day and night coming on, or Dusk as it is titled. On a late afternoon winter day, grandfather, boy and dog go for a walk. Down by the river is a delightful sunset. Boy thinks it's sad that it's the end of the day, but grandfather points out that dusk has it's own merits.
The strange people, the beautiful shadows, and the city perspectives take us into the night in a big city, where with all the lights coming on it is like daytime again.
The watercolors, pen & ink are luminous. The contrast of white, yellow, and orange from the lights on the purple and blue shadows just jump off the page. It's definitely December with the holidays of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa clearly showing in the shop windows and stores.
This book will be great to use during December for Storytimes and outreach to schools and daycares.
