The Price of Freedom: How One Town Stood Up to Slaver
by Judith Bloom Fradin and Dennis Brindell Fradin, illustrated by Eric Velasquez
The Price of Freedom: How One Town Stood Up To Slavery by Judith Bloom Fradin and Dennis Brindell Fradin, illustrated by Eric Velasquez is an outstanding true story for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday.
A true account of how Oberlin and Wellington, Ohio citizens would not let John Price be taken back to Kentucky and enslaved again.
The illustrations were rendered using mixed media and oil paints on watercolor paper.
The story is a longer narrative and I think would be best used with Third graders and up. There is an actual photo of the Rescuers, bibliography, further reading, and websites listed.
