What's Summer without a little Barbecue?

Jack and the Giant Barbecue by Eric A. Kimmel, illustrated by John Manders is an outrageously funny version of Jack & the Beanstalk.

Just imagine if Jack lived in West Texas, and his dad's recipes were stolen by a giant hot on the trail of the best barbecue there is.  Then you'd have a good start on this story. I love the addition of the jukebox as the 'golden goose'.  Eric Kimmel is master of folktale retelling.

The illustrations were rendered in Winsor & Newton Designer's gouache with some colored pencil accents and highlights. The colorful, active artwork is paced well with Kimmels story.

Listen to the story on Kimmel's website, read by the author! You can listen to eleven of Kimmel's stories.
