Josephine Baker Dances
Jazz Age Josephine by Jonah Winter, illustrated by Marjorie Priceman is a rip-roaring success. The gouache and ink, vibrant illustrations portray the life of Josephine Baker's rise to fame. Priceman's expressive art has won her two Caldecott Honors for Zin! Zin! Zin! a Violin by Lloyd Moss and Hot Air: the (mostly) true story of the first hot-air balloon ride. The artwork shows the fluid movement of the dancer and the words give it even more energy. There is an author's note in the back with more biographical information. I didn't know that Josephine Baker addressed the crowd in 1963 where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech.
