by Melinda Long, illustrated by Holly Meade is a silly sound book. The illustrations are rendered in gouache and in with some cut paper. All throughout the book papa and nana take turns snoring and rattling the dresser or clinking the blinds. It goes into elaborate patterns of snoring and sounds - 'gidda -gidda; 'scurrafffa, taffa, taf' and 'arghh, errgha, errgha.' What a great book to use prior knowledge. Almost every child knows someone that snores or has had another book read to them about snoring, like Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson. Then have the kids make all kinds of horrible snoring sounds, write them down, how they sound and have a blast! This book could be used with practicing phonemic awareness, where you try to find the different parts to words, and these are all made-up words.
