National Grandparents Day this year is Sept. 11, 2011. So get out there and read a story with a grandparent. Your Moon, My Moon by Patricia Maclachlan and illustrated by Bryan Collier is the perfect story for those grandparents and grandkids that don't live near each other. It compares the cold and hot places they both live, what they do together when the grandchild visits, and what the grandchild is doing while the grandparent does just the opposite. But what they have in common is looking at the moon, and they get to visit in the end. The wonderful illustrations were done in watercolor and collage. I've always liked how Collier uses real people's faces throughout his art. This is a lovely addition to use with grandparents day, storytime, or anytime you're missing someone you love.
