Eric Kimmel does it again. He's brought us a new version of an old favorite. The Three Little Tamales by Eric A. Kimmel, illustrated by Valeria Docampo is a great twist on the 3 Little Pigs. A runaway tortilla rolls by the taqueria and declares that they will all be eaten, so the 3 little tamales run away too. There is a smattering of Spanish throughout the story set in Texas. The 1st tamale makes a house out of sagebrush, the 2nd tamales makes his casita out of cornstalks, and the 3rd tamale chooses tough, prickly cactus for her home. And of course there is a big bad wolf, Senor Lobo! I love Senor Lobo's verse: "I'll huff and I'll puff like a Texas tornado and blow your casita from here to Laredo!"
Take a look at The Three Little Tamales and find out how this fractured fairytale ends.
