School-Age Programming and Black History Month

We had "Art out of the Box" with African American Arts last month. The art box came with so many wonderful examples of art, with baskets, sculpture, fabric art, painting, collage, and a few I'm sure I've forgotten.

Since there were so many great things to choose from, I picked one artist to touch on and to have the kids create a piece of art like his. The artist is Romare Bearden. He was a collage artist mixing mediums and his art was beautiful and some were very abstract.

This program was held on two different days. One was afterschool with the neighborhood school kids and the other was a morning homeschool group.

Another program we had in honor of Black History Month was Condra Ridley presenting a portrayal of Coretta Scott King. She is a marvelous storyteller and we had a full house for her presentation.
